Wacko dead, a great pity since he was one of the true entertaining celebs, Man I always used to say (until ~15years ago) Im gonna live forever, like wacko, no a good sign. All the stress hes ungone in his life cant of been to good for the heart.

Btw wrote + recorded a tribute (all done in an hour on onboard soundcard so qualitys crap) wacko

What-cha gonna do NY when the hulkster runs wild on you, ….. the last frame is priceless

18 june 2009

Just watched a film from 1997, things didnt go to well for GW in it, coincidentity ive just gotten a book about the great man himself out of the library the bush tragedy

David bain innocent, this was the right verdict of course (like OJ simpson), Now I have no idea what the reall truth is, only one fella does but my thoughts of the trail. Thoughh my feeling was OJ innocent slightly, DB guilty slightly (of course a feeling is not enuf to convict upon)

A – before the trail we were told of fresh evidence that categorically proves davids innocence, this was never shown during the trail, why was this

I see the wolframalpha engine has been launched (+ its a bit of a disaster, the main problem is it was hyped to much), From what I can see Its methods are similar to a AI method I wrote back in the mid 1990s, I only got noughts + crosses working with it (which it passed) + attempted chess but it failed mainly due to lack of memory, storage. How it differed from other AI methods eg with chess is, it learns + is not reliant on CPU speed as all, it does require a lot of storage to work though or else the results are bad.

Reading an article about the large hadron collider today in new scientist One thing that Ive heard mentioned a few times is about the Higgs boson particle, + if they dont find it its nearly as interesting/worthwhile as actual observing it (aka sitting on the fence, out asses covered statement)

Why is this statement false from a logical POV, simple.

Define Nearly as well something close to, at least greater than ½ ok. For arguments sake lets say its 75%

* suppose they dont find it, at least theyve gotten there 75%, ok what next build a even larger collider + repeat, what happens if they dont find it this time also, 75+75= wow theyre already up to 50% more value than finding it the first time, in fact logically its in their interest to not find the higgs.

30 april 2009

Listening to bruckners 10 symphonies in a row, Ive never noticed how similar the finale to the 8th is to the 4th (true all his symphonies are similar), but with the wagnerian horns and all its pronounced. (insert a rant here about the beauty of the wagner tuba, perhaps the most difficult instrument to play)

24 april 2009

I cant believe the $200million rugby stadium has been given the go ahead for dunedin, When I first heard the proposal I remeber thinking what a pie in the sky idea, itll never see the light of day. I heard one of the advocates today on the radio say "look at the new stadium in welligton, its been a success thus we can to"
hmmm now let me see, wellington is a city of nearly 400,000 ppl whose popluation statistically have the highest average wage in the country, dunedin is a city of just over 100,000 of the poorest ppl in the ciountry

24 april 2009

theres this guy in this tv program in nz, he is nz's answer to micheal jackson, though without the singing dancing etc ability, what abilities does he then possess I hear u ask? the looking like an freak.
True yes kiwis arent the best looking ppl in the world, but surely they could find better than these 3 models

14 april 2009

from the bbc "He had a weapon aimed at him - that would be my interpretation of imminent danger," said Admiral Gortney. After the pirates were shot, navy personnel sailed to the lifeboat and released Capt Phillips, whom they found tied up inside.what bullshit, logically it doesnt make sense to anyone with an IQ over 90 personally I have no problem with the shooting of the hostage takers, in fact they should be launching an offensive against thier onshore bases (why else have an armed force if youre not gonna use them). its the lying about it that pisses me off. The problem for the US navy is now they can say 'blah blah' + I or someone else can easily go, umm but you lied about this incident, why should I believe you now.

9 april 2009

john bishop has gotta be perhaps the most boring on radio nz 'the panel', ramble ramble, he uses like 3x the amount of words than necessary., chris trotter is almost as bad cause hes spends ages searching for long words to interject.

31 march 2009

If any kiwis are wondering (like I have been the last couple of weeks) why the windows clock has been jumping back an hour each day, its due to time.windows.com having the wrong time (someone should tewll them Im surprised they havent already) to fix, rightclick on the date + then goto the internet time tab, + unselect 'automatic synch time'. btw just looked at the map, it seems as if france, beneleux, spain are in the wrong time zone, they should be in the same one as the UK.

23 march 2009

Jade goody died a couple of days ago, jade who? seriously u must know since Goody ranked number 25 in a poll by heat for the most influential person in the worldWTF!! :) apparently her first claim to fame was cause she was as thick as a brick, I dont know whats happening with society, today being an idiot is often praised, look at the milage george bush jr got out of playing the fool (aw shucks)

19 march 2009

I often hear mentioned (by wellingtonians) oh the wind in welligtons not so bad, but now that I experienced all 4 seasons in wellington I can say that that statement is bollux, it's constantly blowing, how bad? Well youve heard chicago has the been called 'the windy city' according to the stats it averages throughout the year 16m/s windspeed, wellingtons is 22m/s. OK now 22 sounds only marginly more than 16 until you find out that a doubling of windspeed in fact cubes the force, i.e ^3, thus (according to my calculations wellingotn is ~2.6x windier than chicago). This all begs the (retorical) question why the fuck did they stick the government here?

10 march 2009

well national has been a disatser so far (but the majority think theyve done a good job, of course this is mainly due to that its early in the parlimimentary term) but look at whats really happened,
theyre talking about privitising ACC (which personally I dont think Ive ever used) but anyways bad idea + now private prisons, haha, mark my words it will be roads next!!
history lesson( remember NZ we went through this phase of privatisation years ago + what a roaring success that was (sarcasm) ) bloody hell now we have honours reinstated FFS, sir johathon hunt, sir colin meads etc, sir (person who donated large sums of money to the ruling political party) .
great now we have the happiness factor of a tax cut (personally I believe tax should be high eg 50% but then everything should be done, stamp out crime, poverty, scientic exploration etc, (*)well stamp out is impossible but it would solve it but thats a topic for another post) that helps the average worker
(what they fail to mention is the average worker == the richer worker), now if the tax cut benifited the median worker instead of average worker it would be far better since then 50% of ppl benifit, now whats happending in reality is ~70% of the workers in nz hear the news theres a tax cut but then look in their paypackates + see no difference, theyll ask their coworkers 'tax cut? did u get one?' + 'theyll say no' + they will reply together 'bloody management' who perhaps did see some tax cuts, but anyways it foisters the idea they X (who earns more than me) got a tax cut + I didnt.

10 march 2009

what a conaside from the fact that smell is even more important than taste, its a publicity stunt ( or the ego of someone that has been breathing the BS so long they start to believe it ) I would gladdy challenge him to take a blind scientific test to see how good his tastebuds are (+ like the winetesters before him he will not be perfect), its a similar story being played out over the world WRT stockmarkets/property etc.

26 feburary 2009

the obama families getting a dog, exellant now we have something to amuse the media for the upcoming 4 years (with photo-ops/stories)

24 feburary 2009

Listening to berlioz's requiem for the first time in a long time, amazing work and berliozs personal favourite.

20 feburary 2009

Theres a question thats been bugging me for more than 10 years, it was posed by the wrestler hulk hogan
'What are you gonna do when the largest arms in the world rumble on you' I can imagine myself lying there thinking to myself, oh noes the largest arms are rumbling on me

18 feburary 2009

the makers of beer cans here in nz, need to take a lesson off the europeans, here you drink a can tip it upside down in your mouth + still theres like 0.5% left, whilst european cans the figure is like 0.05%, true in the overall sceme of things the shortfall from 10dozen can be made up with a single can, but its the idea (exagerrated when youve had a few no doubt) that Im missing out on this. the reason why this happens is cause the tops of nz cans are not funnel like shaped.

14 feburary 2009

went and saw the new zealand symphony orchestra last night, high standard of playing, ok (though cause of the seating you couldnt see them play) played a new piece by the nz composer anthinoy richie (quite a nice style obviously inflenced by shostakovich), also heard hydans first cello concerto, I dont know why but the first movement always makes me feel as if im stoned. The solist was a bit to quiet though, it ended with one of my favorite beethoven symphonies, the 4th (Ild rank them 6->7->9->4th ... 3rd), the 4th was actually the first piece of beethoven I ever owned.

9 feburary 2009

so long since Ive updated the reason primary being, is cause its been so long since ive updated. which doesnt make sense, as all Im doing is compounding the problem but anyways reboot here goes.

5 december 2008

im ashamed I just heard a japanish climber died on mt cook, ok shit happens but we're been following on the news about those two being stuck there for the last week or so, now they were only 3700meters high ( nz is not a high country ) + its now summer, true it would of been below zero + hazardiss conditions (even in summer, wind 150+km/hr ) but even still climbers should of been sent

27 novemeber 2008

One thing Ive learnt over the years with programming, is dont try and be smart with shortcut, eg perfect example today. an object onscreen at a certain time can be upgraded eg (looks different color) Now first off u think Ill keep the object + just change the color, now I know in this case thats not a good idea, the best method is A/ destroy the object + B/create a new object in the same place. OK performance wise itll be slower but its 100% safe + independent + easily expandable.

18 november 2008

I see theyre up in arms in the UK about a babys murder though this is just weekly news in NZ Im afraid, but even for NZ this case was bad
* Used for adult wrestling moves copied from a Playstation game;
* Whirled rapidly on a rotary clothesline until flung off;
* Put into a tumble dryer and spun on high temperature;
* Had her head and feet dangled into the fireplace when the fire was lit;
* Kicked repeatedly in the head because she was crying;

10 november 2008

well national got in, though they didnt do as well as I expected which was ~49% of the vote, this is due to act,the greens + laboiur polling about 1percent more than I thought they would, also whilst I expected it I cant believe 3+ % of voters still voted for nz first, in saying that though parliment loses one of its greatest characters with winston gone, even though Ive never liked him, even at the start when he was back in national though thats debatable as winston has only ever belonged to that or any other party except the 'selfpromotion party'

6 november 2008

Im a great fan of politics, cause of the backstabbing, mudslinging etc thats usually involved but oddly I cant get interested at all about either the american or the nz elections, this is most likely due to the fact that both results are pretty much forgone conclusions, ie obama + national

15 october 2008

whilst usually you wanna multiple numbers rather than devide due to speed, another important point is theres no chance of a devide by zero error

11 october 2008

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=676-wftOu94 I remeber this guy getting fired cause of cartoons he had written that were percieved to be anti-zionist, now I used to read his cartoons every day in the paper, + they were anti-nz,australia,us,zimbawea china, lebannon (whatever was in the news) but the thing is + Ive noticed it multiple times u can critise anyone, except for israel, why is that? its like they (the state of israel) employ ppl/or volenteers that just trawl webpages/newspapers/tv shows looking for items that show the israeli state in a non optimal light, watching that piece u get the idea he only done israel cartoons, but thats not the case most of his stuff from memory was about nz politics, this web piece is obviiously focused on about why he got fired. I thought this guy along with tremmain were the greatest nz cartoonists of the last 20 years (though from that piece they didnt show the good stuff)

9 october 2008

haha russel crowe, is it no wonder that the christian church has been hit by a lot sexual scandals if this is the sort of stuff they use as recruitment material! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mO9nI4NmWak

6 october 2008

I see the the trail of emma agnews (alledged) killer started today, had a quick search on the net, he'ld been convicted of other sex crimes in the past, a lot of the evidence is pretty strong, now yadda yadda fair trial etc but whats happened is some lawyer has talked the dude into going to trail, so the laywer can earn his/her check. Ive seen the stats 20years ago the % of ppl pleading guilty was a lot higher now its like hey why plead guilty? esp when u have lawyer's wispering in your ear, I can get u off, + what do u lose.

5 october 2008

amazing stat - (perhaps not true + aint checked but read, ok anyways) of the 500+ playboy playmates that have existing over the years only one has done hardcore porn

19 septembr 2008

ok I admit im a sceptic, always have been, look at the ufo stuff on the internet? nothing major?, the ghost stuff?, same old, same old, yep, to me this is the greatest letdown with the internet, I was hoping to see some good shit

19 september 2008

Here are some of 'playable' games ive made in the last year
The problem is I find actually playing games very boring ( whilst I do enjoy the intellectual fun of making them ) I have no idea whether or not the idea is worthwhile or not cause I dont actually enjoy playing any of them :), Im thinking of taking one game + really polishing it (fixing the menus, tweaking gameplay, replacing the placeholder graphics of now etc), before releasing it, so what looks the bestest idea?

The player must cutout/salvage all the panels from a spacestation, whilst being chased by enemies

Tile matching game, where u must remove the groups either by making chemical compounds or by matching the chemical groups, movement is made by sliding rows/columns, the goal is A/ puzzlemode - remove all the tiles B/ points - new tiles drop in once to replace any that have been removed

protect your villages who multiply, a man can impregnant a woman that gives birth to a child 9months later, all grow old and die, each can fight the invaders, some can inflict more damage than others eg a man does more damage but doesnt give birth. Your village is protected by an instrument that fires each of the four elements fire, water, earth + earth. each is most effective against a certain demon, eg fire instantly kills the water demons + does slight damages against air/earth but none against fire

a atandard shotempup, the twist is the player can switch between the two planes eg on the ground shooting the ground enemies or up in the air

another shootempup, conquer the planets, push the asteroids to take out the aliens sort of thing

prototype for the above shootemup

a tower defense game, the more territory you occupy the more money u earn, money is spent on buy towers or troops which can attack the enemy

another shootemup, a bit of a jetpac ripoff, u go from planet to planet on each planet u must collect the fruit from the trees, fruit take a while to ripen before they drop to the ground for harvesting. viewpoint can be switched between over the shoulder + from above

FPS what happens if a player gets teleported back into the time of the cavemen/romans/middleages etc (each with there own weapons) you have todays weaponary machineguns rocketlaunchers etc but they have the weight of numbers

u have three balls to hit X procent of the targets unfortunatly whilst I was making it I discovered a similar idea had been done 'peggle' though mine involved physics + 3d, eg ramps, fans, elevators etc. so tried to turn it into a breakout sort of game which didnt workout so well.

another shootemup, player leaves a trail behind him, once the trail crosses itself all enemy in the enclosed area are inflicted damage, player must conquer X% of the territory

18 september 2008

I was thnking it would be great to have a site called 'idiotpedia or crapedia' where blatently humourous false articles exist but it looks like it does already exist
I love on the front page they have an article 'Hitler's Evolutionary Racism' + then next door a piece called 'Quote of the Racist Charles Darwin' :) the whole things hilarious, it takes great pains in telling you unlike the 'liberal leftish bias' of wikipedia it has a neutral viewpoint :) no doubt a fair percentage of wikipedias articles show bias but conservapedia's 'neutral' viewpoint is just so blatently based its laughable. amongst the articles we have the statements 'jesus IS the son of god', 'theres debate over whether or not the earth is flat and/or 6000 years old'. The scary thing about this all is theres 10,000s of pages/contributors.

theres a long page entitled
Examples of Bias in Wikipedia The following is a growing list of examples of liberal bias, deceit, frivolous gossip, and blatant errors on Wikipedia.

1. Augusto Pinochet, who overthrew communism in Chile and then restored democracy before voluntarily giving up power himself, is called a "dictator" by Wikipedia,[1] but Fidel Castro, the communist dictator of Cuba for four decades, is instead called a "leader" or even a "president".[2][3]

fair enuf, lets see how the unbiased conservapedia handles it
- Fidel Castro (born August 13, 1926) was the dictator of Cuba from 1959 to 2008
- General Augusto José Ramón Pinochet Ugarte (1915–2006) was a Chilean soldier and politician who served as Chile's head of state from 1973 to 1990.
classic :)< - btw yes castro was/is a dictator

19 september 2008

went to castlepoint last weekend,Ive never been there, yes there still are places in nz I havent been to before. weird to see all the shells embedded in the rocks 50 meters above sealevel, cause the shells literaaly look like theyve just come out of the sea, ie they dont look like fossils.

14 september 2008

went up to taranaki for the weekend, a whiteout as u can see on the mountain
, I lived in new plymouth many years ago its changed a lot since then

7

takashi is a brill director

blackball

5

the ozzie original film was far far better

Gui da gui

6

quite good sammo film, it was meant to be a kung fu horror (but there was no horror or splater)

Junkers Come Here

2

slow, really really slow who would think a story about a divorce (which they dont even do in the end) + a talking dog could be so ssssssssslow

the rescuers down under

7

no relation to the original film (ie rescuers) so why use the name but anyways this is better than the original + also has the distinction of commiting to film the representation of oz that looks the least like oz, roll up ladies + gentlemen in oz u have towering mountains (fact-the highest mountain koziosko u can drive a car up), huge canyons/waterfalls/fields of wildflowers/rainforests etc (all within easy walking distance of ayres rock) truth is the surface of the moon is a more accurate portrayal of australia.

last house on the left

9

wow better than I thought it would be also different then I thought, a ground breaking film with one of the most powerful scenes ive ever seen on film, great music also written + performed by the films lead who gives perhaps the best performance Ive seen by a first time actor

my own private idaho

7

reasonable start for van sants carraire, an overrated film though, gets its rep from the actors + subject matter. how weak is that

lost highway

5

weak entry from lynch, hes done a couple of good films but each of his gets overreated (what a luxurey)

shrek 3

5

kill this seriese now, perhaps the 6th film is brilliant but hey is it worth waiting for

eagle vs snake

5

better than nepolian dynamite that ppl say it resembles (personally I only see a tenuous connection) but still a lawnful film, the director deserves another chance but if he repeats (or worse) he needs to be discarded

bean

4

FFS whilst I never really enjoyed the skits they are watchable but 90+minutes of a tamed down bean is excuriating

mr beans holiday

3

even worse than the first if it wasnt (two bean films for a dollar) i'ld be pissed. I'ld love to write a bean episode though, he'ld kick ass.

the legend of drunken master

9

rewatched cause its such a film (better than DM1) but not as good as kung fu buffs say, one day I'll write the definte list of jackie chan films

akira

8

starts off very slow + boring but give it a chance after the first 30minutes it becomes 'deeper' + drags the viewer in to a great tale

planet terror

4

bad, does not suceed in what it tried to be

mullet

5

the movieshow guy gives this his highest rating? WTF does he know it was boring, actually a lot of films ive watched recenetly have been so

Rampo jigoku

3

got the miike feel, the creeping sense of doom, but ultimatly the 4 sub-films are weak

the golden compass

7

a bit of a mess but I enjoyed this more than I did the book

sicko

5

the cuba part should of not been in the film, moores least preachy/grandstanding film which although a lot of ppl dont like his style, actualy does make good film

resident evil: extinction

4

I cant remember how good the first 2 were (ild given both a 5/10) parts of this film were cheesy bad still watchable though

eragon

5

malkovic is his normal terrible self

velvet goldmine

5

cate blacett doesnot get creditted, a lookalike, but it gets me thinking theres been no great love stories WRT music,l we have this strange marriage of kurt corbain/iggy pop ie santa claus, only the finasl sony is bowiesk

deathproof

7

i wish tarantino wouldnt act, hs a dream direction (dream as in every other dir wants to be him, cause u can make any old crap + pass it off as an 'artwork'), eli roth also shouldnt act. Anyways his best film since ..., 2 slow in the start

Janghwa, Hongryeon(a tale of two sisters)

7

apparently theres an american remake in the works, the only remake of an asian horror that was decent was the ring, beautiful cinematograhy in this film, acting (except for the father) was also good

hostel pt2

5

eli does try, why doesnt slovia complain like (from borat) ubekistan?? did

Leben der Anderen, Das

8

not as good as its portreyed to be, a bit of a simple cliched story in the end

blood diamond

7

leonardo's accent was all over the place,

harry potter and the order of the phoenix

6

another potter film by the numbers

the bourne ultimatum

7

non stop action film, worth watching but very overrated

envy

6

not as bad as ppl make it out to be

chicken little

5

they tried but the main problem is they moralise far to much

MSM – garden of death

4

way to predictable

flushed away

8

well written CG film, by the guys from wallace + gromit

MSM – destroying angel

4

looks like the makers are running out of ideas, thus each show is becoming more + more unlikely

dead silence

4

shit (from the makers of saw) on the cover a yawnfest, saved by quite a good ending though

MSM – the electric vendetta

6

a bit like a xfiles episode, thus not a typical episode

oceans 12

2

a collection of scenes, I think there was a story there somewhere but very well hidden

MSM – who killed cock robin

5

pretty boring + like often is the case in this series an unbelivable motive

MSM – dark autumn

6

you wouldnt want these cops helping you, as it normally takes 3-4 murders before they catch the killer

serenity

7

a highly rated recent sci-fi film, its good but not that good

09 september 2008

Got Der fliegende Holländer with Otto Klemperer, BBC Chorus & New Philharmonia Orchestra out of the library, WTF during the 3rd act they've stuck flange on the chorus voices, the recordings from 1968 (I think that was the first year of flange, eddie kramer IIRC) thus its a cool effect, but whats cool for hendrix doesnt suit an opera.

04 september 2008

A great app for the ps3, a planet viewer, ala use the numbercruncher cell to reconstruct the planets data, + use bluray to store the data/texture/terrain info. I'ld love to do a flyby over the earth or mars

04 september 2008

got a election pamplet from act in the mail today (btw I believe I voted for them a couple of elections ago, so Im definitly not anti-act)

For non kiwi-s the act party are very right wing Liberalism party

but anyways the pamplet is a joke. their spiel is they can bring to nz 2 things? A/ the average wage earner will earn $500 a week more B/ roger douglas :)
obviously #A is fantasy island (unless youre talking in 10+ years), #B WTF are they advertising him?, his finicial nous is like brashes, ala zilch, just cause he was/is a high placed finicial job doesnt make him a good candidate
a Question from the pamplet - who do u want to manage nz's economy in a crisis? cullen, english or douglas. someone tell me this is a joke question right?
also they mention in the fifteen years since douglas was in charge of finances the economy hasn't performed as well as it should of.

heres my analogy, say u have a racecar + then someone removes the wheels, do u blame the lack of motion on the fifteen succeeding drivers of the car or the person that removed the wheels?

the douglas years as minister of finance, GPD per captia

as u can see during douglas's tenure the average GDP increased a measly $2 a year ( ~4c a week )

4 cents!!!!! but hes arguing this time he'll increase the average wage by $500 a week, it brings tears in the eyes :)

btw cullen has averaged $474 increase of GDP a year, ala if u start at januray 1st u can knock off 2 days latter, under douglas u will have to work until dec31 to get the same benifit :)

04 september 2008

I notice that john wayne even though he often portrayed soilders onscreen, dodged serving during world war 2 (unlike other actors who served eg james stewart), this must of pissed of a lot of ppl that went to the war, a similar situation exists today WRT george bush the third (dodged out of going to vietnam) yet hes now commandeer in chief of the armed forces, I can imagine soilders in the US salute him with gritted teeth.

04 september 2008

two methods of interobject communication
A - objects send the possible others messages when something has happened
B - objects assume nothing, ie if they want to know something they query the other objects state, start anew each time etc
#A is most often used in programming cause its more efficent, eg most OSs/windowing systems do it this way, but #B is safer. I tend to do #B cause f this

25 august 2008

brian edwards on the panel today, hes brilliant even in his advanced years, he needs a weekly hour national radio show

16 august 2008

ive always been glad (my hero) hendrix died when he did, cause I though his stuff was going downhill, yet I see now it wasnt, even though he was going through a low patch his stuff was still great

16 august 2008

ok I dont have a TV but it seems like the NZ media (newspapers/web) dont give a shit about the olympics, the whole week before the oympics + now the first week, they've only mentioned it once in the top3 sport stories, FFS, whilst I love rugby (its the most beautiful team sport, honest proven opinion) I think during an event that happens only once every 4 years that is the closest to having competitors from most countries in the world, that it should garner some coverage, esp since its *the* positive event that the world unites (be it badly or other), ok I'ld prefer the world event being something other than sport but hey thats what it is. shit I dont know what to say

12 august 2008

the distribution of medals in the olympics is a joke, swimming is the worse example, yes phelps is the best swimmer ever, but to able to win 8 medals is unbalanced where in most other disciplines most ppl can only hope to win 1. theres even more medals available in the pool than on the track!!!, now a conseverative estimate is ppl travel 1,000,000x the distance upright than they do swimming, hell I bet >50% of the worlds population cant even swim. also whats with the backstroke, breststroke, butterfly, freestyle bullshit. why dont they included crawling hopping runnning backwards etc (cause they make as much sense),yes theres hurdles + walking (which should be dropped btw).

08 august 2008

ok the guy perhaps done it on purpose but!!! how many times have I + everyone else clicked on the close window instead of maximize/semi size button by mistake, hmmm not a single one of the ppl that replyed to this item thought of that!

08 august 2008

japanese is the most beautiful language for the ears, ppl(in the west) say that about french, but thats because A/ we(in the west) get told that often B/ it is a romantic language (thus it sounds similar)

08 august 2008

'The United Nations has proclaimed 2008 world potato year', its about time :), comeon seriously FFS

07 august 2008

fucken amazingfollowup to this cause its not editted in any way.

05 august 2008

videoof a tree falling down + narrowlly missing a car last week outside the place I used to buy booze in nelson, "youre a dickhead" :), speaking of the weather I havent been able to mow the lawn for 6 weeks, due to the fact the weather hasnt managed to string together 3 fine days in a row in that time, the bright side is if youre coming to nz for skiing most places have 2+meters snowdepth

04 august 2008

ppl say climbing everest is too easy nowadays, its practically a case of following the queue up to the top, but I've just seen figures, nearly 10% of the ppl that reach a summit actually die, at those odds would u like to bet.

25 july 2008

Listening to some of William waltons music for 'battle of britain', sounds like hes 'borrowed' some wagner there

Ive recently been seeing some threads comparing C++ to C#/java. One of the arguments for C#/java is it maybe 10% slower performancewise than C++ but its 10x quicker to get things working, ok heres a real world exampl. recently I threw together a working game in about 5 hours with C++, now if in fact developement time was 10x quicker with c#/java I could of done it in about half an hour :) wow!! I'm moving over to the either C# or java, unfortunatly the reality is quite different (realities always a cunt aint it), doing it in C#/java would of taken just as long as in c++. The reason being the developement bottleneck (in higher level languages), the time consuming part is typing it in, working out the logic, playtesting etc. After Ive thought of what Im gonna do, I dont sit there scratching my head going "now how can I code this in C++". I believe ppl have difficulties with c++ is cause they over complicate it, look at any c++ forum where someone asks something, youre guaranteed to get (whilst perhaps more technically correct than what Ild do) overly complicated + obstuse answers. I treat C++ as C extended/relaxed, keeping my code as simple as possible. As you may know I also develop in flash/actionscript which (apparently) facilitates even faster development times than java or C#, so now we're talking what? 20x faster than c++ to throw something together!!! In reality development times are roughly equal, in fact maybe slightly quicker in c++ cause I dont have to fart around with the retarded actionscript language trying to coax performance outta it. oh yes performance, I also call into question the figure than c#/java is ~10% slower, true in most things the bottleneck is not the numbercrunching CPU work, ie user input, disk access etc but with games theres a saying 90% of the cpu time is spent in 10% of the code (though it might be 99% is spent in 1% which sounds closer to reality), typically this is the physics, collision detection, the setting up the rendering, the AI etc. as u can see from the following benchmarks theres a lot more than 10% speed seperating the languages.

A thing I love about europe (classify as a whole) is that the forests are so cultivated (same in north america), whilst here I love the forest its a fucken impossible mess to walk through, u go off the trail in the bush here, youre lost.

the last goon show of all

2

just like the radio shows this went under my chin, ok it might of been genre defining at the moment but it hasnt stood the test of time

the hunger

8

very stylish (like a lot of vampire films) though not really a vampire flick, definitly a worthwhile physcological view, Willem Dafoes on for a sec but hes instantly recognizable, a bit of a weak ending though

she creature

7

very nice atmosphere, a lot of the turn of 20th century horro/sci fi books have this feeling often written in the first person

the lost weekend

3

a 'reefer madness' take on alcohol, good film but in no way linked to reality, it won 4 oscars only because of the subject matter not because of qualityor stuff like that (similar to brokeback mountain)

the sea is watching

5

kurosawa's last work (he wrote the script but didnt direct it, had the makings of a good film but not the realization

an unfinished life

3

predictable film but worthwhile if u like the genre

28 weeks later

6

Robert Carlyle spoils a lot of films, anyways not a good start to the film, theres banging at the door the ppl think its zombies come to eat them, thus what do they do? do they stand + pick up a chair whatever to defend themselves, no they remain sitting a the table looking very concerned at the door, disbelief for the film has been lost within the first 5 minutes! shit, the film is a huge letdown (musics quite good though), after an hour i have to say its quite engrossing

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever

1

rotten tomatoes has this as the worst film ever, whilst not that bad its still plays like some overlong music video

the rainmaker

6

quite good courtroom drama, which i typically hate

bootmen

2

ive had 2 jaw dropping moments in my life, the first was when i was a child many years ago watching an tapdance expert on tv give a demostration, i literally was frozen i could not move, anyways this film was plain bad even the easy part (the dancing) was bad

scoop

7

quite an entertaining woody allen film, the ending was rushed though

who killed the electric car

8

a must watch film, not cause its the best made at all but because its true but it does show the failings of capitalism, as business is in making as much profits as possible, not for giving the consumer what they want

tenacious d in the pick of destiny

8

jack black has that star power quality, the viewer is drawn to him bugger clooney, pitt etc dont to such a degree so why do they get paid so much more (retorical question)

nightbreed

6

made a bit of a 80s film farce of clive bakers story

meet the robinsons

7

a good disney cartoon, see leaving out the songs does actually help

the prestige

7

overrated + overlong but still worthy of a watch

disturbia

5

quite a good american teen horror film

frailty

8

excellent horror, im surprised there havent been more horror films on a similar vein cause its a rich source

godfather 3

3

george hamilton perhaps is the worse actor ever (great comedy value though ) even sofia coppola was btter (bearly), gf1+2 were terrible

fast food nation

5

no where as good as some reviews, to disjointed, disappointing cause the theme could be milked well

ladyhawke

5

very 80s film

jumanji

6

i liked this better than the remake/retelling

chinese heroes

4

standard hong kong kungfu flick a bit to pro-chiness propaganda for my tastes

cold and dark

6

i love the style, true a bit pretentious, the worse thing was the teeth of the guy that was in the boy band bros, the second film ive seen Kevin Howarth in + both are brilliant, the superintendent is brilliant

hot fuzz

9

the last 1/3 did peter out and become a bit predictable (similar to shawn of the dead) but still a fun film to watch

enron the smartest guys in the room

4

a let down, a weak doco esp considering the subject matter

the new world

3

way to slow, the highlight of coure was the wagner piece played the overture to das reingold, the sound of the wagner horns/tubas are fucken amazing

event horizon

6

ild been looking for this for ages, turned out to be pretty standard horror scifi fare though

beyond reasonable doubt

6

nz's most famous murder, unfortunatley theres no resolution

snake in the eagles shadow

6

perhaps jackies finest kungfu

blades of glory

7

US frat comedy's ies have improved over the last couple of decades

101 dalmations

6

the nth interpretation to this story, reasonable watch

class of nuke'em high

3

i remember watching this years ago, has not aged well

the cat returns

7

good film not up to miyazaki's standard though

drunken master

7

i like part 2 better, jackie had learnt his craft better (even though the kung fu was worse)

ratatouille

7

overrated + overlong but still worthy of a watch

the return of the living dead

8

great comic zombie film, peter jackson must of taken notes

escape to witch mountain

4

donald pleasence cant save this by the number family film

hellraiser, hellseeker

7

actually a brilliant underrated film ( i watched 8:00->15:00 4x in a row due to a rip error + didnt realize, thought it was part of the film, cause the film does play with time, given me an idea though for a film, where the same scene is replayed often (like groundhog day) but each time a bit more is revealed, the premise a murder that is cocked up during it, + at the end the realization that the murder shouldnt of happened, just shows sometimes even sequels of sequels have hope

severed

4

good music/soundwork doesnt save a bad film, theres been way to many zombie films anyways, perhaps i should do a best 10 of all time (fulci etc), the film does try hard though + is well worth watching esp if u like the genre

freaks

4

one of the most famouse horrors (which its not), just an excuse to see pinheads on film, whats the music that the guy plays at end on the flute, also why is the giant in the film perhaps 1.8 meters tall

ravenous

6

not as good as i hoped but still a worthwhile watch for horror fans

ginger snaps

6

a good werewolf film but like ive said the genre still needs is a beacon

demons

4

ive been wanting to watch this for years, unfortunaly it was a major letdown

la dolce vita

4

felleni's greatest work or so some say, but overlong use of imagery in an overlong film

before night falls

6

Javier Bardem is definitly one of the greatest (if not the greatest) actor alive, just shows even if u are not blessed by body or looks u can make it (sly stallone is another though hes in not in the same class but he to is an ispiration)

transformers7

wellmade esp considering the subject matter, ie how lame is a film over (not to bright WTF) robots that transform into cars etc, it would get another point if ½ hour was cut

hogfather

3

i read the book + like many of pratchetts books ive read it aint really that good, rankins are much better

dodgeball

5

another US sporting comedy done by the usual suspects, pity vince vaungen is like the worse actor in the last X years, his prob is he doesnt want to be embarassed

annie hall

5

whilst not the greatest fan of star wars, this instead of star wars won the best film oscar

the beyond

5

fulci's great, he has the leone camerawork down to a tee unfortunatly the whole film is a series of images + no story, i love the part with the actress from city of the dead (better film) 'ive lived in new york all my life' spoken with an london accent :), still if russel crowe + nicole kidman can win oscars for terriblely bad accents, whos complaining, also why were half the spiders fake

the virgin suicides

6

better than lost in translation

feast

7

i love the hero (bruce look-a-like) dying right at the start, though in general the 'twists' were quite predictable but still an enjoyable gore film, the 12 frames per sec action sequences were offputting,

suspira

6

over the top color + lighting, beaultiful cinematograhy but the stoy is way to slow + ultimatly cinema is a telling of a story, though parts didnt fit, overall it was great music i must say (simliar cheesy 70/80s italian horror) but this time it fitted/ it fat?? :)

ji ji

8

great period comedy from jackie chan (which ive seen before then again ive seen ~70 of his films so most I see nowadays are repeats)

the black cauldron

5

I enjoyed the book when I was younger, the film was pretty dark for a disney one

pirates of the caribbean : at worlds end

6

This series is rapidly going downhill I can see them stringing the series for a few more shows

knocked up

3

Wow this was meant to be a comedy?

the grapes of wrath

7

the third film of a book ive read this month

aristocats

5

terrible film only saved by a couple of the best disney characters, the hillbilly dogs

elf

5

standard fare from will farrell, worthwhile way to wile away 90 minutes

spiderman 3

4

terrible conclusion (I hope) to the series, u can see they wanted to inject new life into a tired forumula

07 july 2008

In windows XP How to allow larger sized cursors? I have the extra large ones but theyre still to small onscreen, Im wanting at least 4x the size. 128x128pixels I think.

20 june 2008

sometimes i spend to long searching for the ideal solution to something first time, eg today creating a billboarded string line on the screen, i spent 10minutes trying to get memory/cpu usage down, when all i should of done is just the straightforward logical solution + stuck a TODO flag to have a look at optimizing it later if/when i had more time

1 july 2008

A depressing fact is I prolly wont 'discover' any already existing music that i love, the last time was the band 'nofx', but stuff like classical music I've practically heard it all already (all the famous stuff i mean, even a lot of the not so famous).

4 july 2008

Most computer languages should get rid of the concept of the unsigned number, yes in the old days when storage/memory was limited perhaps there was justification, then again perhaps not think of all the similar problems with storing filenames in 8 characters, or the year as two digits 99->00. Surely ppl realised that capacity was doubling every ~2years, ie in a year or so it wouldnt be an issue + as a bonus u wouldnt be lumped for years with a limitation issue

unsigned int a=1;
cout << a-2;
answer = 4294967295

ok thats obviously wrong, but often in an app the error doesnt become apparent until much later, I wonder how much time/money has been wasted over the years cause of this design flaws.

14 june 2008

ive just brought a 24inch monitor, unfortunatly its widescreen which is practically all one can buy nowadays, the screen manufacturers prefer to push wisdescreen as theyre cheaper to make, eg a 24inch widescreen has a smaller area than a 24inch 4:3 ratio screen. its the perfect sellers senerio, u market something which is worse + persuade ppl to think its better, by sticking a term to it that implies its better :). i predict we'll be seeing screens marketed as 'extra wide screens' in a couple of years mark my words, 'extra wide screens', guy in shop (gosh they must be really big, ill pay extra for the priviledge. (manufacturer rubbing his hands)'he he sucka'
just some figures that prove widescreen sux

4:3 screen 20" = 1600x1200 resolution, actual size 16.0" x 12.0" = 192"
wide screen 24" = 1920x1200 resolution, actual size 20.4" x 12.7" = 259"
4:3 screen 24" = 1920x1440 resolution, actual size 19.2" x 14.4" = 276"

14 june 2008

living in lower hutt now

04 june 2008

watching a vid of shane williams (the welsh winger)yes hes good, i believe this is due to his massive thighs, lower center of gravity does an perfect runner make for breaking tackles, ldeal legs are those that a for power (quick burst) and speed (can maintain someit similar for ~20 secs) ie running fast for 1+ minutes is not required at all in fact its an impendiment, also shanes step is nearly ideal, since he does the A, im going leither eft or right (no compromise) yet he doesnt give away which way hes gonna go, most wingers try to be fancy + leave this choice to the last sec, ie they improvise ala they play by ear based on the data at that moment, if it looks good left ill go that way else right or maybe even straight, but in doing so u will decrease the energy u cane possibily commit to the final choice., + when it comes to breaking the line 20-30% less commitment/power is often the difference of making or breaking the line, by the way did i ever mention i once scored five tries in a game ( i always used to score at least a try a game) though this was prolly was more due to my speed + not my skill

04 june 2008

two great genuinely scary horror films in a similar vein that everyone must watch, 'my little eye' + 'kobolos'

04 june 2008

i love microsoft's VS2005, a major complaint though it only displays ~10tabs along the top of the window, typically i've ~30-40 files open in it, the solution is simple do what someone with an extension in vs6, just have multiple rows of tabs. also the ability to shut multiple windows/tabs at once is needed as well. :)
